Organization for Sustainable Development and Research

The Organization for Sustainable Development and Research (OSDR) is a registered non-governmental, non-political and non-profit organization working in the field of survey, monitoring and evaluation, disaster risk management, sustainable development and agriculture capacity building.

OSDR has conducted roughly 600 projects in these fields in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. OSDR’s vision is to support social and economic development with specific focus on the most vulnerable communities through provision of skills, knowledge and information. Our mission is to provide policy and decision makers, during ongoing reconstruction, nation and state building process, with timely and reliable data and information for informed decisions and to develop indigenous human capacities to ensure future self-reliance and sustainable development.

OSDR will conduct fieldwork in the borderlands of Nangarhar and Nimroz provinces. With the close coordination of Dr David Mansfield and based on feedback from other partners, OSDR will design research tools and translate these into local languages (Pashto).

Sultan Mohammad Ahmadi
Managing Director - OSDR

My name is Sultan Mohammad Ahmadi, I have been the Managing Director of OSDR since 2008.
I am from Shinwar district of Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, and I graduated from the Agriculture Faculty of Kabul University in 1980. I have been working in the field of Agriculture, Research, Monitoring and Evaluation, Capacity Building and Education since 1989.

I have worked with different organizations such as the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA), Agency Coordination Body for Afghan Relief (ACBAR), International Rescue Committee (IRC), World Food Programme (WFP), and OSDR since 1989 till now. I worked in positions of; Managing Director, Survey Unit Manager, Field Coordinator, Survey Supervisor and as a researcher with the above organizations. I managed and worked for more than 600 research, M&E, Disaster Risk Reduction, Agriculture and Capacity Building projects in all 34 provinces of Afghanistan. I attended 20 training courses and workshops in the field of Agriculture, Research, M&E, Disaster Risk Reduction, Sphare, Community participation and Integrated Environment in India, Italy, Dubai, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

I will be responsible for overall management of OSDRs activities in GCRF project including hiring the project staff, communicating with the project partners, control the financial and program activities including data processing, analysis and reporting.

Askar Khan
Researcher

My name is Askar Khan, I am from Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, and I graduated from the Police Academy of Kabul in 1987.

I have been working in the field of Research, Survey, Monitoring and Evaluation and assessment since 2009.

I have worked as a Researcher at OSDR since 2009. During this period I have maintained relations with community leaders and local authorities in different parts of the country, mostly in the eastern region. I am a researcher in this GCRF project and will collect data according to the project objectives and questionnaires from border areas in the eastern region. I will collect data through conducting interviews with Key Informants, Traders, Transporters, and officials.

Azizulah Ibrahimkhel
Project Supervisor

My name is Azizullah, I am from Laghman province of Afghanistan, I graduated from the Agriculture Faculty of Kabul University in 1982. I have been working in the field of Research, Survey, Monitoring and Evaluation and assessment since 1989.

I have worked in different positions such as Supervisor of OSDR (2008 until present), Supervisor of ASU/CoAR (2003-2008), Supervisor of ASU/ACBAR/IRC (1994-2002) and a Surveyor of ASA/SCA (1989-1993). From the beginning of my work I have been involved in implementing about 400 survey, research and M&E projects which were implemented in almost all 34 provinces of Afghanistan.

From 2002 to 2018, I worked with Dr David Mansfield in research projects relevant to the poppy economy in East and Northern regions of Afghanistan. I have good relations with community leaders and local authorities in different parts of the country. I also have knowledge of different Afghan cultures, agriculture, the economy and livelihoods. I am able to speak, Pashto, Dari and English.

I am working as a Project Supervisor for GCRF and supervise the data collection and quality control process in the field.

Ghulam Rasool Moosakhel
Project Manager

My name is Ghulam Rasool, I am from Laghman province of Afghanistan, I graduated from the Agriculture Faculty of Nangarhar University in 1982.

I have been working in the field of Research, Survey, Monitoring and Evaluation and assessment since 1989. I have worked in different positions such as Program Manager of OSDR (2008 until present), Field Coordinator of ASU/CoAR (2003-2008), Supervisor of ASU/ACBAR/IRC (1994-2002), and Surveyor of ASA/SCA (1989-1993). From the beginning of my work I have been involved in implementing about 500 survey, research and M&E projects which have covered all the provinces of Afghanistan.

From 2002 to 2018, I have worked with Dr David Mansfield in research projects relevant to the poppy economy in the South, East and North of Afghanistan. My experience has given me close relationships with the local authorities and community members in different parts of the country. I also have extensive knowledge about different Afghan cultures, agriculture, economy and livelihood, and I am able to speak, Pashto, Dari and English.

I am working as a Project Manager for this GCRF project and manage all activities of the project relevant to OSDR in Afghanistan.
My main role in this GCRF project will be the overall management of OSDRs work, communication with stakeholders and the quality control of the data collection process.

Hasti Gul
Researcher

My name is Hasti Gul, I am from Laghman province of Afghanistan, I graduated from the Agriculture Faculty of Kabul University in 1982.

I have been working in the field of Research, Survey, Monitoring and Evaluation and assessment since 1997. I am working as a researcher and data collector since 2008 until present with OSDR.
Between 2003-2008 I worked as a surveyor with CoAR/ASU and 1997-2002 I was employ at ACBAR. From the beginning of my work I have been involved in implementation of about 350 survey, research and M&E projects which have covered all the provinces of Afghanistan.

From 2002 to 2018, I worked with Dr David Mansfield in research projects relevant to the poppy economy in east and northern regions of Afghanistan. I have good relations with community leaders and local authorities in different parts of the country. I am able to speak, Pashto, Dari and English.

My main role in this GCRF project is data collection and conducting of interviews with target groups.

Hazrat Khan
Researcher

My name is Hazrat Khan, I am from Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, I graduated from the High Education Institute of Nangarhar province in 1979.

Since 1996 I am working as a researcher. In this period of time I have been involved in data collection for different projects in different regions of Afghanistan for United Nations agencies, International Organizations, Embassies and other donor agencies such as the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and others.

My main role in this GCRF project is data collection in border areas.

Israr Ahmad
Researcher

My name is Israr Ahmad I am from Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, I have Master’s degree in Public Administration from SWISS UMEF University in Kabul Afghanistan (2016), and a Bachelor’s degree from the Agriculture Faculty of Nangarhar university (2004), with experience in teaching. In the last two years I have been a lecturer in Management and Statistic subjects of BBA and BCS faculties of BAYAN University in Kabul. I am proficient in several computer programs including SPSS, GIS, and ODK for monitoring, evaluation and research.

I have more than 14 years experience in data management, data analysis and designing of databases. In this period of time I mainly worked in the following projects and agencies:

  • APEP project funded by USAID.
  • AHICP project funded by World Bank.
  • International Institute of Higher study in Criminal science.
  • Creative/ACR project funded by USAID.

For the last six years I have been working at OSDR as a Database Manager/Data Analyst, during this time I have designed databases for more than 60 research projects and completed data analysis for a range of donors agencies.

In this GCRF project am responsible for all data processing systems in the field and the office for OSDR. This includes the database development, direct observation of the data entry staff, data cleaning and logical controlling,  data management and data quality controlling, data storing, preparing the data analysis plan and analysing the qualitative and quantitative data based on the GCRF project requirements.

Jamila Poya
Researcher

My name is  Jamila Poya, I am from Ghazni province of Afghanistan, I am a graduate from the BBA Faculty of Ibnisina University of Kabul.

I am working in data entry processing with OSDR since 2014.

I have worked in the data entry process of the following projects over the past five years:

  • Translation of transcripts from local language into English of food fortification coverage tool kit survey for GAIN.
  • Data entry of follow up survey for ARC/BMZ.
  • Translation of transcripts and data entry drop out study for Ministry of education.
  • Data entry of different other baseline survey, monitoring and assessments.

My main role and responsibility in this GCRF project is data entry and translation of qualitative data from local languages into English.

Aqillah
Researcher

My name is Aqillah, I am from Kabul province of Afghanistan. I am a graduate from the Economics Faculty of Kabul University.

I have been working in data entry processing with OSDR since 2016. I have good experience in data entry and translation of transcripts from local languages into English language. In the past two and a half years I have been involved in data processing in different research projects.

My main role in GCRF project is data entry and translation of collected data from the field.

Mohammad Suliman
Researcher

My name is  Mohammad Suliman, I am from Paktia province of Afghanistan and I graduated from the Journalism Faculty of Daawat University in 2000.

I have been working in the field of Research, Survey, Monitoring and Evaluation and assessment since 2009.

Since 2009 I have worked as a Researcher at OSDR. From the beginning of my work I have been involved in the implementation of about 60 surveys, research and M&E projects which were implemented in different regions of the country. I have good relations with community leaders and local authorities in different provinces and districts. I am able to speak Pashto, Dari and English.

I am working as a Researcher in this GCRF project, conducting interviews with respondents and being involved in data collection.
